WORKSHOP: USE OF ART THERAPY WITH ASD: Helping your child develop life through Art Therapy
Sun, 13 June 2010, Wisma MCIS Zurich, Petaling Jaya
 
This course builds on the Introduction to Art Therapy workshop and gives carers and parents more ideas and frameworks for working with art to help children with ASD. This workshop provides some tips for developing a relationship so the child grows through the creative process in the home and classroom.
 
In order to fully benefit from this workshop we recommend all participants attend or have attended the introduction workshop “Discovering Your Child Through Art Therapy: What the journey entails”
 
OBJECTIVES
  • To enable you to explore further art therapy theory and how it is important for child development.
  • To enable you to learn some of the key psychological principles in art therapy in relation to acquiring life skills.
  • To explore how art making impacts on social, emotional and cognitive skills.
  • To help you gain further ideas of how to run creative arts activities to develop your children in the home or classroom.
  • To enable you to explore your own creative process and how you can use it in your work.
THE FACILITATOR
Caroline Essame is a British-trained Art Therapist and Occupational Therapist with 25 years' experience in the field of arts, health and therapy.

WORKSHOP: DISCOVERING YOUR CHILD THROUHG ART THERAPY: What the journey entails - An Introduction

The creative process involved in making art is healing and life enhancing. Little did we realise that simple yet innovative, cost effective, art based intervention can benefit individuals from the young to aging adult. This workshop attempts to share with you the basics of art therapy and the effectiveness of art as a healing therapy especially for children on the autistic spectrum disorder.
 
OBJECTIVES
  • To enable you to acquire a basic grounding in art therapy theory and how they are important for child development.
  • To enable you to learn some of the key psychological principles that underpins art therapy.
  • To help you gain ideas of how to run creative arts activities to benefit your children in the home or classroom.
  • To enable you to question the relevance of art therapy in healthcare and education particularly for those on the autistic spectrum disorder.
 Through the lecture, demonstration, and discussion, participants will learn the basics on how to use art therapy for children on the autism spectrum disorder.
